  • Slotted rotors = clicking sound...

So I installed my new Cquence dimpled/slotted rotors this past weekend on the fronts and rears. They look and perform great! However, while I'm driving or braking, I hear a consistent clicking noise coming from the rotors. I know there should be a clicking sound while braking since that is due to the slots... but during driving? I don't think this should be happening... or maybe I need to "break in" the new rotors and brakepads for the drive clicking to disappear? Anyhow, any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks!

Is it from the front and only when you depress the brakes initially??

The sound seems to be constant regardless if I am applying the brakes or driving with no brakes applied. It actually seems most audible while driving...

Re: Slotted rotors = clicking sound...

My front left clicked when I initially engaged the brakes after my install too.

I took it all back apart and reseated the pads (didnt have to reuse c-clamp). Lined it up good and rebolted the caliper back in place.
Then I noiced a little play in the rotor. I made sure it was centered on the studs as it can actually rest agaisnt one side or the other. Then I carefully placed the wheel back on and lugged it in place.

Pumped the brakes real good. A few slow then hard pumps of the brake peddle.

Then I went driving again and no noise at all. Perfect.

Im not real clear of the difference between both times.

Did yours come with the retention clips in front? Did you replace them?

Nope, no retention clips here... perhaps I need to pump the brakes a bit more and maybe do more full, solid stops?

There is an indention there and the clips snap down onto them. They can still rest there but not
                      snapped in....?

Hmmm... now I can't remember if I snapped them in... errrrrrr.... would the clips be causing a constant "clicking" sound while driving? I was originally thinking the pads were making contact with the rotor even though the brakes weren't being applied.

yeh they could. as it spins they could vibrate and make a noise

Pull the wheel and check it out.
