  • Unsolved mystery...

so about a week and a half ago i was traveling for work. i was heading south on the interstate at about 9p.m to a destination 100 miles away. i was talking on the phone but i had my bluetooth in and both hands on the wheel starring straight ahead at the road. all of a sudden out of nowhere a huge bang! i had ran something over that was too dark too see right away in the middle of the lane and it was too small to notice right away. i would have tried to miss it but it was too late to swerve at 75mph. soon after i hear the dreaded sound of a tire down. when i got out to survey the damage i found that both of my passanger side tires were blown out and my wheels were broken! yes thats right my wheels were broken! right on the edge of the rim they were cracked with each of them missing a small chunk of wheel. i was very upset and needed to get to my destination. i called progressive and got a tow truck coming but it took 2 hours to get there. after that i rode with the car to a friends house where i was going to stay anyway. a day and a half later i had to have it re towed to a shop for repairs. i had a rental car the whole time so that was nice actually having something decent to drive..it was a new chrysler 200(not a bad car but nothing special). i am excited to get the car back tomorrow. i t will have 2 new wheels and tires along with an alignment and they said something about the steering wheel intermediate shaft too. i will know for sure when i see the work order tomorrow. they said all the suspension checked out but i dont know. if i hit something hard enough to break my wheels, why no suspension damage? i am worried something will pop up later. and the mystery of this whole thing is what i may have hit. the sherriff that stopped went back to look but found nothing and i didnt want to be walking around on a busy interstate at night.
well all in all i am happy for insurance but the whole thing still sucks you know. i just hope the car is ok and nothing pops up that they didnt catch at the shop.

Well think about it like this, the blowing of two tires, and breaking of two rims would have required a lot of energy, so out of the impact all of that energy was used right then. After you wheels, you get to your springs, a coil spring can take several hundred pounds of force to compress an inch. Especially a dynamic rate spring like is found on or cars, they are soft for a nice ride, but they get much firmer when you start compressing them. I'm not really surprised that they didn't find anything. Also I wouldn't be surprised if you have to replace the ball joints on that side earlier than the other.

as stated the supspension was problebly ok because the wheel absorbed all the impact that and the fact that you just drove over it and didnt just hit it. i know the other day i was driving home from Madison where it had been snowing and all of a sudden there was a fertalizer spreader sitting in the middle of the road standing up right. i was like wtf and swerved luckly missing it still random to see it standing up right like someone had placed it there

Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post
